Learning About Wide-Format Printers

Wide format printers which are also known as large format printers. These are computer-controlled printing machines. The print roll with the width between 18″ and 100″ is supported by wide format printers.

The printers that have the capacity of 100″ wide are considered as the super wide or grand format. Through wide format printer banners, posters, trade show graphics, wallpaper, murals, the backlit film can be printed.

Other large format artwork or signage like vehicle image wraps, electronic circuit schematics, architectural drawings, construction plans, backdrops for theatrical and media sets can also be printed.

Some toner-based technology or variant of inkjet are used by wide format printer in order to produce a printed image. This is an economical printing method.

Printing onto a roll of print media can be done with wide format printers.

Wide format printers can be classified on basis of the type of ink transfer process they use.

Solvent

The ink that is not water-based describes solvent. There are some printers in which ink used is petroleum by-product like acetone.  The eco-solvent has glycol esters or glycol ether esters. These ink dry slowly. The best property of such prints is they are waterproof. The used solvent printer is a well-known printing machine.

These can directly print on uncoated vinyl.  The surfaces which are rigid substrates like Painted/Coated Metal, Foam Board and PVC can also be printed.

Dye sublimation

In order to manufacture continuous-tone prints which have photographic quality ink are diffused into the special print media.

UV

Even UV-curable inks are used in inkjet printers. The prints produced are waterproof, embossed and vibrant.  You can use any media material in such technology. Polymers are considered as best media. You can check this out to know more about wide format printers.

Pen/plotter

To draw on print substrate pen or pens are used. It also produces CAD drawings.
